We’re committed to spending more on the education of the poorest children. Our pupil premium is designed to tackle deep-rooted disadvantage by taking additional money from outside the schools budget to ensure those teaching the poorest children get the resources they need to deliver smaller class sizes, more one-to-one or small group tuition, longer school days and more extra-curricular activities. Over the past ten years, the gulf in achievement between the rich and the poor has widened and the achievement gap between fee-paying schools and state schools has doubled. We are determined to narrow this gap.
Procured through the Scape Framework, Bishopsgate House is a collaboration between Darlington Borough Council and the Department for Education providing over 40,000 sq ft of office accommodation for 400 staff within the town centre. The completed building was handed over five weeks ahead of programme, allowing the DfE to take early occupation, and has been particularly well received with a Client feedback score of 159/160.
The four storey building, which includes a collaborative area shared by the DfE and Darlington Council, has achieved a Breeam ‘Excellent’ Rating, providing Darlington Town Centre with a development which illustrates best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation.
